Georgian property tax: progressive scale and exemptions

Property tax in Georgia is not flat. It depends on the household's yearly income and stays very low for most foreign investors.

01

No tax below 40,000 GEL of income

No property tax is due if the household's worldwide yearly income is below 40,000 GEL. Few foreign investors fall under this threshold, but it exempts many local residents.

02

40,000 to 100,000 GEL income

Between 40,000 and 100,000 GEL of income, the rate is 0.05% to 0.2% of the property's market value, set yearly by the municipality.

03

Above 100,000 GEL income

Above 100,000 GEL of income, the rate rises to 0.8% to 1% of market value. It is capped by the municipal cadastral value, typically 60% to 70% of the real price.

04

How to pay

The return is filed on rs.ge before 1 November, payment is due by 15 November. A Georgian accountant handles the yearly filing for 50 to 100 GEL.

05

Home-country impact

Georgian property tax is due locally regardless of your residence country. It is deductible in most European countries thanks to the bilateral tax treaties.
