Indicative rates. Banks usually apply a 0.5 to 1.5% margin over the interbank rate. For transfers above EUR 10,000, negotiate the rate with your banker.

The Georgian Lari (GEL)

The Lari has been Georgia's official currency since 1995. It is convertible and floats freely against major currencies. The National Bank of Georgia publishes official reference rates every business day on nbg.gov.ge.

Paying for a property

Most developers price properties in USD. Payments are made by SWIFT wire transfer to the developer's escrow account. Notary and public fees are paid in GEL when registering at the Public Registry.

Transfer and exchange fees

A SWIFT transfer from Europe costs 20 to 50 EUR in fixed fees plus a 0.5 to 2% FX margin. Wise, Revolut or a Georgian partner bank often saves 200 to 800 USD on a 100,000 USD transaction.
